AI Product Visibility is a Shopify app that makes your products visible to AI shopping assistants. Shoppers increasingly ask assistants like ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Mode and Perplexity what to buy, and these assistants recommend products they can understand: a clear category, a descriptive title and description, and structured attributes such as color, material, size or fit.
Most Shopify catalogs are missing exactly these: products with no category or one that's too generic, thin or all-caps titles, missing SEO text and image alt text, and attributes that live only in tags or free text. The app scores how ready every product is for AI shopping, shows you what to fix first, and uses AI to write the fixes for you.
Shopify merchants who want their products found and recommended by AI assistants and search engines, especially stores with many products, products imported from suppliers, or catalogs that grew without consistent product data. It works for any product type. Suggestions are written in English, so the app works best for stores that sell in English.
Note: no app can guarantee that an AI assistant will recommend your products. AI Product Visibility helps AI assistants understand your products by making your product data clear and complete.
AI Product Visibility installs from the Shopify App Store like any other app. There's no code, no CSV import and no manual setup.
Add AI Product Visibility to your store and approve the requested access. The app asks for access to your products (to score them and write the changes you approve), not to your customers or orders.
The app reads your products and calculates your AI Visibility Score: your store's score, the three factors behind it, and the issues holding you back. This is free and doesn't use any audits.
Pick a product from the Recommended Action, the Best products to audit next list, or any filtered product list. A free preview shows what the audit will fix before you use an audit. The audit usually takes under a minute.
Compare Current vs Suggested for each change, tick what you want, edit anything, and apply. Changes go live in your store right away.
AI audits never run on their own. The score is calculated automatically when you open the dashboard, but every audit is started by you, one product at a time.
The AI Visibility Score is a number from 0% to 100% that measures how well AI shopping assistants can understand your products. Each active product gets its own score, and your store's score is the average of all active products. Draft and archived products aren't counted.
Each product's score is weighted from three factors:
Score = 50% × Shopping Intent Coverage + 30% × Content Quality + 20% × Category
| Factor | Weight | What it measures |
|---|---|---|
| Shopping Intent Coverage | 50% | How many of the questions shoppers ask about this kind of product (color, size, fabric, fit…) your product data answers. |
| Content Quality | 30% | Three checks: title and description, SEO title and description, and image alt text. |
| Category | 20% | Whether the product has a specific, correct Shopify category. |
Why these weights? Shopping Intent Coverage counts the most, because it decides whether an AI assistant can match your product to what a shopper asks for. Category counts the least, because a product with no category already scores 0 on Shopping Intent Coverage: a higher weight would penalize it twice.
| Score | Label | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Below 40% | Needs attention | AI assistants are unlikely to recommend these products. |
| 40% to 70% | Fair | Understandable, but missing important information. |
| 70% and above | Good | Clear, complete product data. |
A sweater answers 58% of shopper questions, passes 2 of the 3 content checks, and has the generic category "Clothing":
Its AI Visibility Score is 59% (Fair). Moving it to the specific category "Sweaters" would add 10 points on its own.
Scoring runs on our servers from your product data, without AI. It's free and unlimited on every plan, and doesn't use any audits.
When shoppers ask an AI assistant for a product, they ask about its attributes: "a red wool sweater with a crew neck", "slim-fit jeans in size 32". For each category, Shopify's standard product taxonomy defines the attributes shoppers care about. For a sweater, that's color, size, fabric, neckline, sleeve length, fit and more. This factor checks how many of them your product answers.
| Where the app finds it | Credit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A product option (such as Color or Size) or a category metafield | 100% | Structured data: AI assistants read it reliably. |
| A value in the tags or text (title, description, SEO), such as "100% cotton" | 60% | The value is there, but the AI has to work it out from free text. The audit can save it as a proper attribute. |
| The attribute is only mentioned, without a value (such as a "Fabric" tag) | 30% | The AI knows the attribute matters, but not its value. |
| Not found | 0% |
The app looks in this order and stops at the first match: product options, category metafields, tags, then text. In tags and text, a value always counts before a name: a "Fabric" tag plus "100% cotton" in the description counts as the value "cotton".
A category has 10 attributes. Your product has 4 as options or metafields, 3 only in the description, and 3 missing: (4 + 3 × 0.6) / 10 = 58%. Of the 42% lost, 30% is missing data and 12% is data that lives only in text.
A product with no category scores 0 here, because there's no way to know which questions shoppers ask about it. Attributes follow Shopify's standard taxonomy; custom metafields aren't counted.
Titles, descriptions, SEO text and alt text are the first things AI assistants and search engines read. Content Quality has three checks, each worth one third. A check passes only if none of its problems are found, so a product scores 0%, 33%, 67% or 100%.
IMG_1234.jpg, DSC 0042) or simply the product title. The category tells AI assistants what the product is, and decides which shopper questions apply to it. The app uses Shopify's standard product taxonomy (for example Apparel & Accessories › Clothing › Sweaters).
| Category | Score | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Specific and correct (has no subcategories) | 100% | "Sweaters" for a sweater |
| Too generic (has more specific subcategories) | 50% | "Clothing" instead of "Sweaters" |
| Missing, or likely wrong | 0% | No category, "Uncategorized", or "Shorts" for a sweater |
Why is a generic category penalized? A broad category has fewer attributes than a specific one ("Clothing" asks fewer questions than "T-Shirts"), so moving to the right category can lower Shopping Intent Coverage at first. Scoring generic categories at 50% makes sure the right fix always raises your score.
Why does a wrong category score 0? It makes AI assistants misunderstand the product, and its shopper questions are measured against the wrong category. That's worse than no category at all, so it's the most serious issue on the dashboard.
For every product, the app works out the most likely category from its own data: title, description, product type, tags, collections, attributes, and how you've categorized similar products. Each suggestion has a confidence level, High or Medium, shown in the product list. A category is flagged as likely wrong when a confident suggestion points to a different kind of product and the product's text doesn't support the current category.
For every product, and for your whole store, the app calculates the score you could reach if you applied every suggestion: "Your score could reach 72% (now 40%) if you apply all suggestions." Each product also shows how much an audit can add: "Up to +30% after audit".
The potential score only counts fixes the app knows it can make:
Values the AI may add during the audit, for example a color it sees in the product images, aren't counted in advance, so your real result can be higher.
Some issues can stop a product from being recommended, but they aren't part of the score: prices and stock are yours to manage in Shopify and change daily. The dashboard still flags them under Other issues to fix:
| Issue | When it's flagged |
|---|---|
| Price is 0 | Every variant has a price of 0. One free variant next to priced ones (like a gift wrap) is fine. |
| Out of stock | No variant is available for sale, as of the last product sync. |
| Wrong compare-at price | A variant has a compare-at price that isn't higher than its price, so the "sale" isn't real. |
| Wrong product type | The product type points to a different kind of product, for example "Shorts" for a T-shirt. The audit can suggest a better type for you to confirm. |

| Factor | Issues |
|---|---|
| Shopping Intent | Low coverage · Text-only attributes |
| Content Quality | Weak product text · No images · Weak alt text · Weak SEO |
| Category | No category · Generic category · Wrong category |
| Not scored | Price is 0 · Out of stock · Wrong compare-at price · Wrong product type |
The list of products behind every number on the dashboard. Open it from an issue row, the Recommended Action, "View all", or "Product Management" in the app menu.
An audit is one AI review of one product. It uses 1 audit from your plan.
Before you use an audit, a preview shows the product's score now and after the audit ("Now 40% → After audit up to 70%"), and every issue per factor, marked "AI will fix this", "AI will suggest a value for you to confirm" or "You need to do this yourself", with the score gain of each fix. Product details are shown side by side, with problems highlighted.
Every suggestion is based on the product's own data: its text, images, options, metafields and category. Suggestions are written in English.
You're always in control. Nothing changes in your store until you click Apply and confirm. There's no one-click undo yet: every change is recorded in Audit History, and to change something back, edit the product in Shopify.
